All About Security Cameras

Originally security cameras were developed to increase security in banks and similar instututions. Nowadays it not uncommon to find them in homes.

Today the development of electronic video divices has come to the point where it is simple and inexpensive enough to be used in home security systems. The most measurable effect of a camera is detection and prosecution. Several notable murder cases have been solved with the use of video evidence gathered by security cameras. Still, an openly installed security camera is also proven to deter criminals (corresponding to our first line of defense). Criminals will always look for a relatively easy target.

 

The security cameras you find are either analogue or digital, which means that they work on the basis of sending analogue or digital signals to a storage device such as a video tape recorder or PC/laptop. Analogue video cameras can record straight to a video tape recorder which are able to record analogue signals as pictures, but these devices are becoming obsolete as more cameras are being manufactured as digital devices

Recently digital and wireless security cameras have become available and offer a flexibility never seen before in home security.

Note: Please be aware that the use of video surveillance on unsuspecting individuals such as houseworkers or visitors may not be legal in all states or countries. This is particularly crucial if a security camera installed on your property partly covers - or could cover a public area - such as the sidewalk in front of your house.
